UNDERSTANDING DIAMONDS
Diamond Education
The following charts are designed to help you understand the relationship between a diamond’s value and its cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. In addition to the 4c’s, and equally important and often not mentioned, is the trained human eye. It is the magic ingredient when selecting a diamond or a stunning piece of jewelry. Allow us to make your dream a reality.
SHAPE
A diamond’s shape refers to its form, which is largely dependent on the shape of the rough crystal from which our cutters begin. The Round Brilliant shape is the most popular, comprising approximately 80% of all diamonds. All other shapes are collectively referred to as fancies.
CUT
Cut or make is the term commonly used to refer to the quality and professionalism of a diamond’s craftsmanship. Cut is an extremely important characteristic in determining the overall beauty of the diamond. For this reason we only select the highest cut grades available.
Every diamond is carefully inspected by experienced experts for its outstanding cut.
COLOR
Color is graded on the lack of color present in a diamond. Color found in diamonds presents itself as varying hues of yellow and brown. The less color present in a diamond, the higher the color grade. Color grades range from D-Z with D being colorless or the highest grade.
Online we only offer diamonds with color grades from D to K. We also recommend the color combinations that work best for each specific setting.
CLARITY
Clarity refers to the number and size of small imperfections naturally found in nearly all diamonds. These imperfections, often referred to as inclusions, determine a diamond’s clarity grade. The more frequent and greater the size of inclusion the lower the clarity grade.
Clarity grades range from FL-I3. We only offer GIA® certified diamonds from IF to SI2. Along with color guidance, we recommend the clarity combinations specific to each setting.
CARAT
Carat is a measure of a diamond’s weight. A carat is one fifth of a gram. The larger the carat weight, the more rare and valuable the diamond. A diamond’s physical appearance is not only influenced by its carat weight, but the quality of its craftsmanship also has a significant impact. Properly proportioned diamonds will look larger and more beautiful than most poorly cut diamonds.
OUR STORY
Our expertise in the art of diamond cutting goes back to 1912. Our artisans are trained to pass the stringent scrutiny of the world’s most recognized luxury jewelry brands. Every center diamond we offer has been certified by the GIA exclusively, the world’s most recognized diamond grading laboratory. We select only the most exquisitely cut diamonds that have been individually checked and perfectly matched for your chosen setting.
OUR PROMISE
We ensure that our diamonds are ethically sourced and compliant with the industry’s most rigorous standards of social responsibility. Every diamond in this collection, loose or set, is cut from a rough diamond supplied under the Kimberley Process and is guaranteed conflict free.
The diamonds we use in our settings are exclusively F-H color and SI clarity, unless specifically noted. The certified round brilliant cut diamonds offered for sale in this collection have been certified as exhibiting either “excellent” or at a minimum “very good” cut, polish, and symmetry. These are the two highest grades offered by GIA. In the case of fancy cut diamonds, our collection also includes diamonds certified as “good” polish and symmetry. Presently GIA does not offer cut grades for fancy cut diamonds.
Our diamonds include a warranty and guarantee, ensuring that your diamond is natural, untreated, and purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. Each GIA certified diamond has also been inscribed with a registered serial number by the GIA. This added security will greatly simplify identification of your diamond and will conclusively establish ownership if required.
